The Stackhouse novels, just like any adaptation, are different than their on screen counterparts. Characters are expanded, some are axed, plot lines are morphed into something bigger or even smaller, and of course the sex and violence has been dramatized to a degree that only HBO could broadcast.

After finishing the first two books I can't say I like the books any better than the show (which is saying a lot for me). That's not to say that I don't enjoy the books for what they are, but it does get a little repetitive hearing about Sookie's misgivings about her vampire boyfriend that can't sense when she wants animalistic sex or when she wants him to just be there for her.

They are good detective/mystery novels that fill the gaps in between larger, chunkier novels that do more than just stimulate libidos.

Read or Not Read: Filler read, good for a long trip.
